Patio furniture can take a beating from the elements, so it’s important to know how to clean it properly. Whether it’s plastic, wood, metal, or a combination of materials, there are a few key steps to follow when cleaning outdoor furniture.

Use the Right Cleaning Supplies for the Job

The supplies you use to clean your patio furniture will depend on the material it is made of. Plastic furniture can usually be cleaned with a mild detergent and warm water. For metal furniture, use a mild detergent and a soft cloth. For wood furniture, use a mild detergent and a soft brush. Be sure to test any detergent on a small, inconspicuous spot on the furniture before using it on the entire surface.

Remove Dirt and Debris

Before you start cleaning your patio furniture, you’ll need to remove any dirt and debris from the surface. A soft cloth or brush is usually enough to do this. If the furniture is particularly dirty, you may want to use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of any stubborn dirt.

Apply Cleaner

Once you have removed the dirt and debris from the furniture, you can begin to apply the cleaner. Be sure to use the right cleaner for the material that your furniture is made of. Apply the cleaner to the furniture with a soft cloth or brush, and be sure to cover the entire surface. Allow the cleaner to sit on the furniture for a few minutes before wiping it off.

Rinse and Dry

After you have applied the cleaner, it’s time to rinse off the furniture and dry it. Use a hose or a bucket of warm water to thoroughly rinse the furniture. Make sure you rinse off all of the cleaner and any residue that may be left behind. Once the furniture is rinsed, dry it off with a soft cloth or let it air dry.
